The indigenous, pre-Columbian Carib Indians, who still reside there, named the island "Waitukubuli", which means "tall is her body".

Christopher Columbus introduced colonization to the island in 1493, and gave the country it's current name

The British and French fought repeatedly for control of the small island nation, which eventually escaped colonial fangs on November 3rd 1978, when it gained it's independence.
